Our Mission Statement
.
Welcome to the American Women's Club of the Philippines (AWCP). We are a very diverse group of men and women living in the Philippines; some are young families on their first overseas assignment others are world travelers that have not lived in the US for 20 years or more. What does such a diverse group have in common, other than a US passport? We all make up a community where people can contact each other for assistance, make life long friends, as well as join in community services to help make this country and the world a better place to live.
Mission Statement
The American Women's Club of the Philippines (AWCP) is an organization of Americans, and spouses of American citizens, residing in the Philippines.
The Club promotes and fosters American cultural values in its activities while celebrating the diversity of an international community.
The AWCP is a focal point from which its members network, build and seek support, disseminate information and participate in community service.
Purpose
The American Women's Club of the Philippines (AWCP) was organized to:
• Promote friendship in the American community
• Share in the cross-cultural opportunities offered by the Republic of the Philippines,
• Assist in the welfare activities of the community.
Historical Note-How it all Began
By Judy Wright
When Ann Murphy, wife of the American Ambassador, arrived in Manila in mid-1978, she was surprised to find no club solely for American women, regardless of affiliation. She, together with other enthusiastic, talented, hard-working women, organized and brought into being the American Women's Club of the Philippines (AWCP). Their first meeting was held in early 1979 and on April 23, the constitution was adopted and officers elected.
Since its inception, the basic organization of the AWCP has not changed, though it has been enriched and expanded through the efforts of its diverse membership. The original goals of assisting newcomers and offering a meeting ground for American women are still part of the Club's mission, but the Club also supports the local population through its community service projects.
Through the years, American women and wives of American citizens continue to establish new friendships as they work together to make the AWCP stronger. Each year new activities are added and the involvement in the Filipino community increases. We are indeed fortunate to be part of such a vibrant, alive and productive organization.
