Thursday's for Others
An amazing opportunity to stand alongside various organizations helping those in need, Thursday's for others is a "sampler" of various NGO's (non-government-organizations) around the Manila area, supported by Union Church of Manila. All are welcome! You need not be a member to join us weekly for hands-on/on site community service activities on Thursday mornings. No skills necessary just an open heart. Organizations visited include orphanages, children's homes and drop in centers for street children, TB and AIDS outreach programs, a women's prison, preschools and feeding program, etc. Come every Thursday or choose one with which to volunteer on a regular basis. Thursdays 8:30 am-Noons.
I will keep you updated as we make our schedule through May. As usual, we will be meeting at the church and leaving promptly at 8:30am. Please give a text to 0917.801.7274 if you are running a little late, so we can wait for you.
Don't forget Drop In Center from 11:30-2pm in the UCM sala. A light lunch and some hearty conversation is provided.

Drop-In Center at Union Church
Each Thursday between 11:30am -2pm newcomers to Manila and “old timers” gather for sharing information, encouragement, and support over snacks and coffee. Hostesses are all expats from Union church; UCM is located on the corner of Legaspi and Rada Streets, Makati City.

Mothers and Darlings Support group offers support and information to any expatriate mother or father and their young children, and to expatriate pregnant women, living in Manila. M.A.D.S. is designed for helping parents and mothers-to-be through regular meetings, playgroups, magazines and social activities. USA Girl Scouts-Manila
USA Girl Scouts Manila is the overseas branch of Girl Scouts of the USA. We are open to girls of all nationalities, from 5 to17 years old who attend an international school in Manila. Leaders are adult volunteers, no experience necessary as we provide training and a complete set of Girl Scout program materials. Troops of 10 girls each meet weekly at school or private homes and participate in a variety of activities to earn badges and learn skills all while having fun and making friends.

An evening discussion group for Jewish Ladies meets monthly to discuss religiously themed topics, historical to contemporary as related to our lives today.

Bridge Lessons: Weekly Duplicate Bridge
Come with a partner to this group on Wednesdays, 11am-3pm at the Peninsula Manila Hotel. Women and men are welcome.
Mah-Jong in Alabang
Hong Kong style Mah-Jong meets in Alabang on Thursday 9am-1pm. Beginners or advanced players.
Mah-Jong in Makati
Chinese style Mah-Jong to begin in Makati. Players at any level are welcome to join. Time and day have not yet been determined.

The AWCP Scrap booker’s Group holds regular meetings or “crops” on the first Tuesday on the month in member’s homes. If you have shoeboxes full of photos, now is the time to get them into safe albums. Both new and experienced scrap bookers are welcome.
The Library at Union Church
Open Mondays, Tuesdays, and Saturdays 9am to 4pm, Wednesdays 10am to 7pm, and Sundays 10am to 12:30pm. Come, browse, and borrow.
Makati Crafts Group
Anything goes…knitting, scrap booking, quilting, needlepoint, beading, and talking! We meet on Thursday mornings 9:30am to 11:30am. Come join this fun group of international ladies.
Square Dancing
Square dancing for beginners and “old timers” happens two times per month at the Manila Golf Club. Beginner’s classes are also available.
Sports
Men’s Basketball
Drop-In basketball meets three times a week at the Dasmarinas Gym on Campanilla Street beside the tennis court. Play 6am to 7:30am. The group is composed of men from age 16 to 60 and has been playing on Mondays, Wednesday s and Fridays for 20 years. Depending on the number of people that show up, we divide the cost of the court rental.
